LS 3 break-in procedure

Does anyone know the correct break-in for the LS 3? I read the LS 1 and am wondering if it is the same. I 'm not referring to the break-in information in the 2SS manual that comes with the car.

Fifty different people will give fifty different answers. I don't know if there is a 'correct' one without knowing what you want from the car.

According to the manual, dont' take it over 4000 RPM's for the first 1500 miles. But Break in procedures are like a**holes...everybody's got one and they're all different!!

There are a great many posts about this

Just search "break in"

The only thing that alot of people say is to use regular oil for the break in period. Then switch to synethic oil.

the company hires engineers and pay millions of dollars to find the correct break-in procedure.

but I guess you can still not believe that the manual is right...

Um, it comes with Mobil 1 Synthetic. I'm pretty sure the engineers at Chevrolet know a little more than anybody else on these boards about their engines.

Main thing is to change oil early to rid of junk collected.Vary rpms and use quick starts and hard stops for at least 500 miles.opposite of what it was 20 yrs ago.City driving the best. You want quick revs but not too high 4000 to 4500 should be highest. Several car engineers swear by this.

1500 miles is a long time to not exceed 4000rpm!!!
it will be torture!

nards444 05-31-2009 08:47 PM

theres always these billys out there that have been doing something special or different this since 1949 in their dads buick and its worked for them. Whatever, the manual was written by people who built it. what it says make sense. Its a free country so do what you want, but your also aloud to be an idiot as well. :flame:
