Guess the Camaro performance numbers

Okay, we all know the magazines will have their as-delivered-from-the-factory cars soon and we'll finally start to see third-party performance numbers all over the place. What is your guess? Here are mine:

SS Automatic
0-60: 4.7 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.51@100

SS Manual
0-60: 4.8 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.35@104

Of course, this will depend on the weight of the driver plus any testing equipment they have on-board at the time of the test. I'm assuming 180lbs over the curb weight in the figures above.

Your estimate is about what I would think as well. I know many of us are hoping it will go into the 12's. But if most cars are running consistent low 13's then on one perfect day at a perfect track a perfect driver could make it happen.

I predict Auto/Manual will be within a couple tenths of each other for both engines.

V6
1/4mile -- 14.1 @100+
0-60 -- 5.9

V8
1/4mile -- 12.8 @ ~110
0-60 -- 4.6

*fingers crossed*

X3 I think the rags' will get these numbers but good drivers will dip high 12s, in both versions.

This might get merged if I (or others) can find related threads. I think something along these lines may have been posted before; just a heads-up ;)

I'm going with Dragon, I think the V8 can creep into the 12's but, that may be wishful thinking. Rumors abound..... :iono:

G8 GXP does the 1/4 mile in 13.0 secs and 0-60 in 4.6s. The SS will beat that mark, at least by a little. Mags were getting 4.4 in the GXP according to autoblog.

I'll see that bet and raise you one!

12.7
0-60 in 4.5!

JMAN311 01-06-2009 03:38 PM

The performance numbers for the G8 GXP have been out and they vary quite a bit. Heck, even different articles in the same magazine (MotorTrend) show between 4.5 and 4.7 sec in 0-60. Also anywhere from 13.0-13.4 sec through the 1/4 mile for the GXP. Maybe it's just the difference between the manual and auto trans, they never really specified much about it.

The G8 GXP weighs a bit more and has a bit less power so I would hope that the Camaro SS manual will be good for high 12's in the 1/4 and at most 4.5-4.6sec 0-60 times.

mitchell87 01-06-2009 03:38 PM

Well magazines have tested the G8 GXP anywhere between 4.6-5.2 so i would asume a 0-60 time of 4.6. Camaro has a few more ponies and weighs about the same. So with a good driver im going to say 4.6 seconds to 60 and 12.8 in the quarter.

mitchell87 01-06-2009 03:39 PM

Haha in the time i typed that 2 other people brought up the GXP

Sizzox 01-06-2009 03:40 PM

12s would be awesome. Idk if it will dip that low.

I'm just as interested in slalom speed, cornering G's and braking.

I'm thinking along the lines of Mr. Camaro69. I am concerned about the overall ability of the V6 with its different suspension and smaller brakes. The V6 is probably going to be a better car around town and for groceries, but I imagine not many on this board are looking for that. You can spend thousands modifying, but then you should just buy the SS. I don't think any of us will be too disappointed with strait line acceleration from looking at the numbers of horsepower and weight. I am looking forward to a production SS run at the Nurburgring. The pre-production car ran a 8:20 I think. It's on the forums somewhere. Anyway, I have a feeling the driver was under instructions not to crash the car, so that time might be a 90% run. I think that when you compare cost and performance the Camaro will be very competitive with cars in it's class. Going, stopping, and turning.
