Programming Key FOB

Key Fob Fix
Misplaced one of my keys and never found it. Ordered a new one ($50). Dealer wanted 1 hour labor ($50) to reprogram or sync the buttons to my car. Found the below fix online and 2 minutes time I was done!

April 15th, 2010 at 4:33 pm, Andrew Hughes Says:
1. Close all vehicle doors.
2. Insert the key into the ignition.
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel(CENTER FOR US CAMARO OWNERS)-continue to hold
down until instructed to release in step 9.
4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the
engine).
6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock
the doors automatically.
10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until
the door locks and unlocks.
This step may take up to 30 seconds.
11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing
transmitters).
12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming
mode.

or you can put one of your origional keys in the ignition and turn to the on position, then remove it, put your new unprogrammed key in the same ignition and turn it to the on position and wait to hear it beep and display "third key remembered" or some thing like that on the center display. that is how I programmed my ordered key. works just like the one that came with my car.

1hr labor at a dealership comes out to 160 dollars so $50 isnt that bad if you really couldnt figure it out as a tech it take me like 10 min and i rather just do it for the person or their salesmen if i like them.

Ok so a little off topic...But I read somewhere that someone had bought a used key fob on ebay and was able to reprogram it. So my question is do all of our keys come cut the same ?
Hatter69 when you ordered the other key fob, did you do it from a dealership so it came cut already or what ?
Sorry for being confused on the matter.

I went to a Chevrolet Dealer ordered a new key. I was told that it had to be cut at the parts warehouse.
It came fre-cut.

OMG - so long story short my 2012 2LT RS Vert needed a new body control module. My key was fine. Wife takes the car today - my key in ignition, get's where she's going, get back grabs her key out of her purse - car won't start, 5 year old daughter crying "make it stop mommy, crowded shopping center, finally finds my keys drives home. Delicately, lets me know something is wrong with my car.

I knew immediately because had the same problem last year when the BCM went on our Tahoe.

Tried the first solution on this post - no avail.

The second - yup 10 seconds.

Thanks for the help.
