Shouldn't we be comparing this to the new Mustangs?

In almost every thread I keep seeing people comparing the new Camaro's to the 08-09 Mustangs. Is that really a fair comparison? That's not the real competition. It's like we all forget that Ford is coming out with a new model.

The '10 Mustangs should be the focus for comparisions, not the now outdated '08-'09 models.

at the time of release it will still be the '09 mustang. Ford will be playing catchup w/ their '10 Mustangs

I don't think there will be anything to compare. GM has a homerun with Camaro. The new Mustangs will still be left in the dust :chevy::chevy:

for the most part the new mustang is only a refresh

At this point in time, we can't compare the new Camaro to the 2010 Mustang, because no one really knows any solid facts about the 2010 Mustang yet. The only thing anyone knows is what the body looks like (kinda). Anything other than that is still a mystery, or a guess. So we compare the 'Maro to the current 'Stang. Less speculation, more... uh... non-spectulation :D

The '10 Mustang will be on sale before the Camaro reaches dealerships. Production starts in January.

Right, but it's not really relevant to compare a new model to an old model. Bragging about how the V6 Camaro can beat the V6 Mustang doesn't mean anything if the new V6 Mustang can compete.

I too believe the new Camaro's will still be better as I've ordered one. However, comparisons of how the Camaro stacks up with Mustangs should wait till their current model comes out.

Source?

I don't see why not. There's no new Mustang out...no SOLID info, I mean...to compare it to. fwiw, I don't think the 2010 Mustang stands a chance, either......;)

The Shelby GT500 is still top dog with their supercharged 500hp. The Z28 should have at least 500hp, weigh less and have IRS. That is what I am waiting for.

headpunter 10-25-2008 08:47 PM

highly doubt the z/28 will weigh less then the ss, but it will have power, better tires, and better aero bits to make up for it.

Im going to the LA Auto show in Nov and ill see it then. To be hones, I hope Scott is there. It would be good to talk to the Camaro Man himself.

It's all speculation for now but it looks like the v6 Camaro and Camaro SS will still handle the v6 Mustang and Mustang GT respectively. According to Motor Trend, the new v6 will have the same power plant and the GT will basically get the Bullit's engine giving it 325-350hp.

:word: There's no reason to believe that the 2010 Mustang will beat the Camaro in any category except weight. Even then, I'll give Ford 200lbs which isn't enough to make up the inevitable horsepower deficit.
