How long has your aftermarket cam lasted or not lasted??

So I"m curious to see how these cams are lasting. LOT'S of failures but also lot's of cams so it's really hard to tell.

Seems like an aftermarket cam is a bit of a gamble these days. Or is it?

If you did a cam and it failed, if you did a cam and it lasted, if you did a cam and it's still going strong........

Let us know.

Give us the following info...

Cam still in use Y/N:
Cam type/brand:
Cam Specs:
Cam miles:
Forced induction:
Power level:
Oil type:
Oil Pump:
Date of cam purchase:
Valve train upgrades:
Bottom end upgrades:

Power level as in how much horse power. Oil type may not really tell us much but interesting to know. LS engines only. You can add what engine if it's not a 376.

My cam died a slow death and as such my engine as many of you know. Bearings wore down from metal.

Mine is a 3 bolt cam
I have not had any issues that are a direct result of the CAM. I will keep this updated in the event something unforeseen changes.

Good work PQ. I was thinking about a poll for this on the way to work

SNSSTR 01-16-2014 12:23 PM

It may be beneficial to have people note if their cams were single bolt or 3-bolt.

Cam type/brand: Comp Cam
Cam Specs: 219/235 .607/.619 113LSA
Single or 3-Bolt: Single Bolt
Cam miles: ~8,000
Forced induction: N/A
Power level: 465hp 435tq
Oil type: Mobil 1 5w/30
Date of cam purchase: June 2013
Still Using Cam: No - unknown cause - it shit out on me - cam dowel pin sheared - heavy wear on lifters and cam lobes - all valves bent.

Shit. I forgot the most important item. lol

So, like Rohdeo16 did just add whether you've had issues.

Thanks guys.

Sorry to hear about your issues, PQ. So, yours lasted for almost 3 years? I have been thinking about doing this to mine, mainly because I love the sound of it! But now, this makes me second-guess that line of thinking. It'll be interesting to see how many guys come out and say that they have not had any issues with theirs.

I can tell you we have sold over 100 cams last year installed and/or sold over counter. We also don't sell 1/10th of the amount of cams some of the larger cam suppliers do. I have not seen a Comp Cam in front of me with a failure since about 2011, when a cam delaminated and Comp took care of it no questions asked (We only noticed it because we swapped motors and cams).

We use only 3-bolt cams, Valvoline/Royal Purple/Amsoil/Redline/Joe Gibbs for oil and anything but Fram for a filter.
