battery change

stupid question here...my first car bulit in this century and i need to replace the battery.if i disconnect the old one, pull it out and immediately install the new one what will be effected?will i lose all radio presets, phone paring, and have to re index my windows?thanks...

Yes.

almost makes it worthwhile to let the parts store do it then,i believe they can hook up 12v while they remove the old battery and save all that stuff?

No clue, I've never had anyone install a battery.

Mine will save everything for a short time. Over the winter I unplugged the battery and the only thing I had to do was reindex the windows. Everything else was untouched.

i could do that.dont want to have to pair the phone though.mine is a flip phone.only bought it because theres no spare tire.

I've had mine disconnected a few times and all that is needed is to re-index the windows.

I've had my battery out 3 times. First time when the oem battery went dead and I put the new one in. 2 other times for some reason I was working with the electrical system in the trunk. Never had a problem with anything. Never had to do anything only put the key in and started the car same as always.

Ditto ...LOL Where's the good sarcasm? No one going to tell him to fil the battery first from the tube attached or it will melt down in a Chernobyl type incident burning a hole in the trunk...LOL

You won't know it until there's an emergency, but you killed your On Star emergency battery.

As some have already stated, nothing will be affected except the windows. When you first start it up after reconnecting the battery, the DIC will advise you to open and close both windows. Your presets and everything else will be fine.

Yep once the on star battery is activated it stays on until its dead. Takes about 4 years.

You all must be doing something goofy. I have never had a battery change affect anything, ever. From a '68 Firebird to a 2016 Honda...and anything in between..

Not too worried about Onstar, it is lit up but i'm betting they don't include the UK if I break down. :)

Any way to disable the lights on the rear view mirror?
