Top speed run

Have any of you found a place where you can do top speed runs? How fast have you been? How stable is the car? Does it start to lift at a certain speed? I'd like to see if i could hit 200mph but i am not sure how the car will react above 150ish. Not sure if there's anywhere close to me i could even do it.

I would say the car starts to lift a little around 130 or so.

I've got a few places around my area that would be more than adequate to open a car up. I've yet done this but always tell myself some night I will.

The place? A standing mile event or similar, not on the street. I've been over 190 several times with a best of 196 earlier in March. My car feels rock solid at these speeds, but this is what it's setup to do. I'll be shooting for 200+ next March after I get a cage installed. Youtube video of that 196mph pass to show how stable it is. Aw5hs4iVzj8. You will have to search it, I'm a dinosaur.Lol

Yea i won't attempt those speeds on the street. 145 and it felt incredibly stable on mine. Just an ss with a spoiler. I assume i could hit 200 with my power. But yea, no cage

Years ago (2012), when opening a new toll road around Austin, Texas wanted to test that the sensors for capturing toll tags and cameras for photographing license plates for tolls would function at high speed. They contracted with one of the Texas speed shops (Hennessey) to run some high speed tests. They used several cars, including a ZL1 Camaro. They ran it in excess of 200 mph with no problems at all; stable all the way. And all the sensors and cameras worked as well. https://jalopnik.com/watch-texas-tes...-a-220-5954826

Half mile wouldn't be long enough. I'd need more than a mile to hit 200 too if 1911 isnt doing it with almost 800whp lol

It takes a lot of HP to get these "bricks" above 180 in the mile. BTW, the toll road that RJT mentioned is 10 mins from me:biggrin:. The Texas Mile is Oct 18-20, check it out.

Boy, this is such a good question. I’ve been driving my SS now for 2 years and have barely hit 90. The car is barely working at that point, I want to let it go but have no idea how to do it.

lemontwist 08-20-2019 12:24 AM

with a lt1 and around 300 hp i saw them do 160 and i had my 1995 firebird up to 150 and it was still pulling......i'm sure the camaro has more it it than that, but do you need it? quick is kinda what everyone seems to go for not fast.

Greenhornet2 08-20-2019 05:52 AM

Quick is what matters to me yes. It's more out of curiosity. Plus I've never been 200mph. Bucket list kinda thing.

Man that run sounded so good! Did you remove sound dampening material from your car?
