Ford just hamstrung the Mustang, RAMP UP THE BUILDING PLACES MORE CAMAROS ARE NEEDED
So as part of Ford's quest to bury Camaro- which is eclipsed only by GM's own urgent quest to bury the Camaro- it appears that Ford's first vicious shot accross the bow will be to detune the Mustang, losing 10 HP and 10 Ft/Lbs from the 5.0 V8.
OMG GET BUILDING. Build all trims, all models, all colors, mostly V8's and FAST!! Get those Camaros out to where people who need Camaros and fast cars can buy them! https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...ng-v-8-output/ |
10 horsepower is nothing. Also I’m gonna assume they are probably putting particulate filters on it versus detuning it. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they are doing it to pass the euro emissions standards versus the US. They probably just don’t want to make the vehicle two different ways.

For the love of all that is holy and does not suck can this be a thread where we don't need to take a deep dive into the broader trends in emissions controls? (Yes, in spite of the fact that it's an emissions change that seems to affect Mustang but not Camaro thus far). So far so good but there are 3 or 5 good threads that are unrecognizable as actual performance threads.
We should take a deep breath of relatively clean air and then focus mainly on the fact that Mustang just got slower and that people should be buying Camaros by the trailer load. This does raise the prospect of a separate EPA/Emissions forum that would probably be pretty popular. |
10HP/TQ? OMG!!!!

Either way, it would be nice to have a thread about cars and perhaps the engineering aspects of emissions instead of massive debates that quickly leave the automotive topics in the dust. |

It seems to be a bigger issue with direct injection engines than with port injection engines . . . Norm |
Don't the RoW Mustangs already make less power than the NA-spec units? Perhaps Ford's just implementing the same setups as those units.

-10hp?
they still make more power than LT1s. |
