The dealer ended up applying three separate software updates to the HMI and so far the system has been behaving properly. The paperwork lists PIT5461A and PIC6171A as the cause.

Check you have the right fob when setting the seat memory. When I switch fobs the dic shows something like "this is fob #2 for memory seat". You have to use the right # button for the fob.
