I think they're referring to the 3rd brake light. A lot of people add a tinted vinyl strip after swapping to the clear GM brake lights. The ZL1 1LE has a different 3rd brake light.

For cosmetic reasons, I agree. They left the exhaust disconnected from the tips intentionally, to keep the tips from melting the rear fascia. A case of function over form I guess.
