it should be a metal frame with the rubber attched and a press fit on the glass. A good weatherstrip adhesive should work. Check why it came off in the first place - make sure it's not catching.

I was going to say broken axle or drive shaft. Clutch would not fail instantly and any problems with the master or slave would leave the clutch engaged. The speedo moving was the key clue.
