Pull the entire console out. Use plastic trim tools so you don't scratch it and unplug it so you can replace the outlet on a bench.

I don't think you have to sand completely down. I did a textured diffuser and used adhesion promoter, primer, paint and clear. Came out great and no issues.

Try putting the last two in first. Mine had one fastener on the passenger side end that was slanted and that's what I did.

Another option is to remove those two fasteners and try to install them...

The light wire didn't just disappear. It must be in there and you just cant see it. Why not just remove the bumper cover, replace the bulbs and housings and put it back on? Why screw around soldering?
