My car has this too. If you look close you can see a faint rectangle pattern outline. Mine has gotten progressively worse meaning the outline is easier to see than it originally was.

We had the lifters replaced in my L99 last week. The tapping was constant and undeniable. My wife (it's her daily driver) said she thought the car was faster now. I smiled!
