Ive had a suction cup on my motorcycle over 130 before. As long as your cup is in good condition and your mating surface is clean you should be ok. That being said I do always tether my cameras.

Incase anyone was interested, it did turn out to be the wheel bearing. Rotor/pad noise masked the bearing noise but I was able to hear it when I removed the caliper!

I think the biggest risk with cutting springs is digging in to the spring mounts. Coils have closed (flat) ends and if you cut them you will then have a point. You could grind it flat to some degree...

If you've got the eng. degree then think about what causes stress in the rotors. You're correct, it doesnt support the wieght of the car but there is far more to it......
