I made the mistake of getting an auto in my Z28 due to the car being a fantastic deal at the time, and regretted it ever since.
M6 all the way from now on.
The GF can't drive manual at the moment, but i plan on teaching her on a little 91 beater MR2, not that i'm going to let her drive my 5th gen anyway...
