They most certainly do; after I did mine I could feel a difference when I stepped on it and I only have a little ol' V6, so I suspect the difference would be even more noticeable in a V8.

Edit: maybe I misread the post, but said upgrades will keep the tires on the ground when accelerating by reducing wheel hop as mentioned, so they'll improve traction from a stop
