IRS is severly prone to wheel hop out of the hole, just the nature/compromise of the design. Furthermore, that is generally the problem with the LS2 GTO, and why it is difficult (generally speaking) to crack 12s bone stock.

I don't think gears will be one of my first mods. I would lean more towards a cam first, and adjust the fuel mapping and timing. That would be plenty to get well over the 400 rwhp mark.
why cam? why not exhaust and intake first? or chassis/suspension setup? cam seems to be 3rd or 4th for most people. . .

suspension/chassis
exhaust/intake
then start the internal mods.
