To me it's not a question of self sufficiency, but of convenience and safety. When backing into a parking space in a busy lot, being able to look out for other drivers while planning my approach as mirrors auto adjust in less than half the time it would take me to dial them in where I like them, isnt as trivial as you might assume. Also saving time to actually
enjoy life is more important to some than others.
