blower cam with turbos
hey all
I feel as if my chance to have some FI has possibly arrived. My financial house is in order, and my annual bonus from work was pretty generous.
I'm looking at different options, but had a question: my engine was built with an SC in mind. ERL 416 short block, low 10s compression, blower cam, and all the other bolt ons (heads, exhaust, cold air, etc...)
I'm exploring all my options - everything from a fat nitrous setup, whipple, procharger, but have only considered these three as viable because of my cam.
What impact would my blower cam have if I were to slap on a set of turbos? I believe it's a BTR stage 3 PD cam, but will never be able to verify unless it's pulled and measured- long story, but shop that built it would only ever tell me "custom blower spec cam" and this shop is now no longer in business, so it's a moot issue at this point.
Would it even be worth considering turbos? I am not shooting for ridiculous power at the moment - only looking for 700ish (I'm telling all shops that I talk to that I want somewhere in the 650-750whp range) this is absolutely doable with my motor, but I also want room to grow. A procharger and the right fuel setup would definitely get me there, but my understanding is that turbos are a bit more affordable on a "per HP" basis. I also want the ability to bump up the power later if I want, which a procharger would be great for, as (I think??) that I could just swap head units and add the necessary fuel, and be good to go. Turbos also offer this benefit, too...
I'm definitely leaning towards an SC just because that is what I'm currently set up for, but figured asking the pros here never hurt...what are yall's thoughts on this?
Appreciate any thoughts/opinions yall can offer up. Regardless of what direction I go, I am damn sure looking forward to more power. Been running around with this setup for 5 years now, and can't wait to have some gofast in my life, regardless of how it is manifested!
