Got it figured out. The trick was that when I pulled the top tabs out, the bottom tabs were binding. The bezel needed to stay pretty straight as you pull it out. I had the top tabs just barely popped out and using my cheap harbor freight nylon pry bar set was able to get the bottom tabs to pop out without damaging anything.

Nothing better than a cheap set of trimming tools. I cringe every time I see someone use a straight blade screwdriver.
