He's running a supercharger on higher boost I believe.
I actually tried a 3" exhaust at one point and yeah it sounded cool but I went back to a 2.5" exhaust and it was significantly improved driving-wise. More power, better gas mileage, less drone. Maybe I feel it more because I'm on a manual, I know more than one person here has had an automatic and went with 3". I just wouldn't. An SS doesn't even have a significant power difference until like 700 or 800hp 2.5" vs 3". It's just more money. If you really want more volume get the MACE cams.
Like I said, start with a full 2.5" stainless exhaust and go from there, maybe add an axle back like Magnaflow, MRT, Corsa, Borla. There are plenty of options that are more than palatable. But a 300hp V6 cannot utilize a 3" dual exhaust properly. A single 3" exhaust pipe can support ~330hp.
