From my experience there is a way to have both. It's called N20. A dry system will set you back about $500 and can be installed in an afternoon. Most V8s can handle a 150hp and can be activated only at WOT. I have seen many cars making over 600hp using autos. I believe this will give you everything you want. It will give you great HP, everyday driveability and you can have the auto.
