Well, I've got kind of a long story, so here it goes:
My dad has had:
-1954 Ford (free car by neighbor)
-1972 Vega
-1967 Camaro RS/SS (which he sold in parts)
-19XX Volkswagen
-19XX Jeep
-1982 Camaro (turned into an IROC-Z clone)
-1986 Corvette
-1969 Camaro RS/SS (daily driver)
-199X S10
-Motorcycle
-1998 S10
-1971 Corvette Stingray
-2002 F150
In the future, I'm expecting:
-1969 Mustang Fastback (father/son project, and since he's already had two first-gen Camaros, he wants a change)
-201X Z28 (if ever made)
But, here's where it really began:
Way back in the magical year of 1995, my dad spent 6 long, grueling months looking for a 1969 Camaro. It had to have A/C and it had to have hideaway headlights. One day, he comes across this total beater about 50 miles from our house, and he bought it. He spent 10 years fixing it up into one of the greatest '69 Camaro's out on the road. It's almost fully loaded (sans tilt steering wheel and something else), it's a mean green with white stripes, and it's packing a hurtful 489.
It seemed only natural I get my own Camaro to keep up the family tradition, but it wasn't until this time last year I decided on getting a fourth-gen f-body. Prior to that, I wanted a classic Nova, but I saw a '96 firebird outside my school every day and I decided that's what I really wanted. My mom suggested looking into Camaros since they were very similar, and I saw an early fourth-gen Camaro, and changed my mind to that for a while. A few months later, a junior at my school started to drive his late fourth-gen Camaro, and that's what I ultimately decided to get. In April, I started looking for my car to have ready for when I got my permit. I spent around two months looking for on craigslist, recycler, and auto trader, and I finally came across the Grape Ape on the latter. I drove 90 minutes out to Canoga Park not even sure we'd take it. My dad spent two hours negotiating, and we finally got the guy down to $3600. Needless to say, we were at the bank in under 15 minutes, and the AAA office in 30. The car was mine.
