I thought the OP was talking about the stock airbox catching a lot of junk but it seems like everyone on this thread has an aftermarket intake. Sounds like the filter is doing its job.
I still have the factory airbox on my car and I collect alot of stuff in the box. I vacuum it out occasionally. The inlet for the airbox points straight ahead so that's probably why it collects junk.
