You are correct. Over oiling causes more issues. I have oiled K&N for all my other vehicles and very lightly oil them plus I keep MAF cleaner around. No issues with my current cars but I had a boosted one that would always foul the maf if I put any oil on.
Plus the “factory” one is less $
