I cant argue what they are saying about the tuning issues.

When we tuned my ss1 and ss3 we had it unplugged. AFTER it was tuned is when I plugged it back in and never had any issues with it...maybe I got lucky.

I liked it because it gave the throttle a more linear feel and removed the dead spot.

There are some tables in hptuners that you can adjust to get you closer to a 1:1 feel on pedal to throttle managment but the engine response still lags compared to the feel of a drive by cable.

My thoughts on the throttle controller still stands that if that is the feeling you want that's what you use.

Plus it was nice to dial it down for the shop to change tires.
