V-6 guys, It must bother a lot of you that you didn't get the v-8 if you feel like you have to explain your self all the time. Just tell them what I do. F off of you don't like it it's not yours.
OP: I feel your pain (being a V6 owner - I got what I could at the time).

Coolman: It's not about "explaining" things away - it's more for the v8 owners benefit. perhaps if they understand our reasoning they wont be such jerks about it. Not all v8 owners are jerky about the size of the engine, but enough are to make it a hardship. I run a Camaro/Firebird club called West Coast F-Bodies.

You would think that tons of people would love to gather up and do events that are f-body specific (I don't always get a chance to update the website I created - but we do things quite often) but quite the contrary - upon learning that the co-founders of the club have v6 cars, they often leave and never come back, probably because they don't feel that they can identify with v6 owners because v6 "muscle" cars aren't really muscle cars at all.

The "do what you want with your car" is certain a grand gesture and a good idea - but far too often us v6 owners are ridiculed and singled out not only by the auto community at large, but by our own v8 brothers and sisters who own the same cars we do. It sucks when your "family" laughs at you and thinks down of you because you got a different engine than they did - because you are simply happy with your car.

And "living with it" is what it becomes. A sort of battle - at first you silently laugh at the jabs and the treatment because you pity the people that ridicule - but over time it gets stale and the little jokes become big irritations.

It's easy to say "learn to deal" but its not easy to do. It's frustrating to wonder why people are so intolerant of something that so closely resembles their own property.

I don't have an answer as to why it happens - but unfortunately the only advice I can give the OP is: "learn to accept it as a part of owning a v6". Just have to realize that you have a "little v6" that will take out most of the v8's on the road without much effort and be happy with that nugget of knowledge.

I hope this little bit helps - in any way possible. If you need to rant about v6 ownership feel free to PM me, I'll respond as soon as I can.

edit: @Dragoneye - Imagine if you had something that you were tremendously excited about - you know of a room where tons of people are excited about something you just bought - so you go into that room to find someone to share your excitement with only to find that 98% of the room thinks that what you bought isnt really "worthy" of being called whatever it is because its not red or green or it only has 2 wheels or it floats instead of flies or insert whatever reason you want here. Us v6 owners really do "try" to leave it be and live with the haters, but often times it's hard to deal with a constant barrage of people who hate what you love so much.

You have to put the grief into perspective. "Living with" and "Dealing with" the hate and "rolling with the punches" only works so often and for so long. It's a constant battle and like coolman said it often results in the v6 owners trying to justify their cars importance in an effort to make others see why they love the car so much. Because it's hard loving something so cool only to be doing it by yourself.
