The car was the Caprice 9C1. It had the original LT1, not LS and the year was 1996 (sorry, got my head all crazy there for a minute) - modified from 260 hp to 294. It was raw though and many departments further modified them into 305+ hp cars - hardly politcally correct, but it got the job done! I have seen many variations of that car and some departments have kept them on the road with updated engines and drivetrains. Production stopped mid 1996 as Chevy did away with the full-frame design, but GM continued to fill the gov't orders through 1997. That left the slowazz turd of a car; Crown Vic as the only new option. HATE that car. Anyway, the Caprice is making a comeback next year with the PPV, a Flex Fuel 6 litre V8 (yep, the old one) rated at 355 hp. But this should make this thread happy: in 2012 the police units will be available with the same V6 that everyone here is freaking out about. I guess that settles the question whether the V6 camaro engine is panzy or not. Heavy handed rooky cops will be enforcing the law with them. luckily I will still be able to outrun them in my LS3 - if I were so inclined.
Pardon the original post - 3 beers and I can't even get my decades straight.
