It got hyped up when there were a lot of deaths in Mexico in the spring. People got scared and the media picked up the story. Why did people panic with avian flu? Why did they panic with SARS? Because everyone gets a better response from being sensational than being reasonable. H1N1 is no worse than normal flu, there is evidence to support that it may in fact be less dangerous than regular influenza strains.
If there were an actual crisis with severe consequences the country would quarantine itself, all non-essential businesses and services would be halted, and we'd be informed to stay at home as much as possible. Nothing at all close to that has been given serious mention. Gives a bit of insight as to how
And before you go and condemn the Ontario Government, remember that it was a federal contract to produce the vaccine, Health Canada is responsible for delays with introduction of the vaccine, and distribution is largely at a local level.
