Coming from a family of Porsche lovers (my dad did a ground up build on a 930) German engineering can be superior, but sometimes to a stupid level. I don't know how many times we had to make a trip to the dealership to by some special 'tool.' When the Germans could just use a nut and bolt they engineer a new type of fastener and a tool to go with it... and use it once, on one car, and come up with something completely different for the next model year.
My brothers friend had a 944 that needed a new clutch the same time as my '68 Camaro. Took me 2 hours to swap mine out, took him 3 days! You have to drop the rear end from the car to do it. (Given it is a 20 year newer car with a trans-axle)
That said, the Camaro is much better looking than anything BMW has made.
