Stereo woes. For some odd reason the Bluetooth on the MyLink infotainment decided it didn't want to connect anymore. It was a grayed out box and all attempts to pair rejected. Did some research and ended up doing a radio factory reset to forget my phone then re-pair. Annoying but I'm glad I got it to work, I don't want to send it to the dealer to get fixed and I have no intention of putting an aftermarket head unit in the car just to regain Bluetooth ability. Tbh when I take the Camaro out, its all about the exhaust, the pops, shifting gears, the raw experience. The stereo is of little concern to me, I do like that if my phone rings it'll go through the car because I'm not going to hear it on its own.
That wasn't my only car audio project this week. My daily driver is a '07 Accord VP. As in "value package" only front 5.25 door speakers, that's it. I've had this car for about 4 years now and I've had it with this crap, this thing needed a proper system but I wanted to keep this under a $300 budget.
I've had this Alpine CDA-117 in there since day one because the Accords stock head unit has no USB. I replaced the door speakers with JVC 6.5's and installed JVC 6x9's in the rear deck. For low end I got a 15" Lanzar Max ST sub with an SPL prefab ported box, power comes from a Lanzar Heritage monoblock. All wiring is Rockford Fosgate and Monster Cable that I had laying around. It's ok, that amp is nowhere near the rated 3000 watts, more like 250-300 and it doesn't like rap. Rock/metal it's ok, anything with a steady hard bass blast, it gets hot...fast.
Coming back to the Camaro: it's Boston/Kicker combo performs amazingly vs the Accord's Alpine/JVC/Lanzar setup. While that big 15 can go low, that little Kicker 10 get just as loud. The JVC's are way clearer than the Boston's though. The Alpine helps clean some of the signal up too.
