If you are looking aftermarket and want to keep the same feel of the car, you might look at Vorshlag. They offer a few different kits using Motion Control Suspension (3 kits with varying prices depending on how much adjustment you want). But what I find interesting about these kits, other than the shocks are rebuildable (so you won't necessarily need new ones in the future), is that they offer matched springs.

I was never able to get a solid answer on spring rates for the Z/28, but from what I can tell its about 400 lb/in in the front and 600 lb/in in the rear. The Vorshlag GT kit has 450 lb/in in the front and 600 lb/in in the rear. That's pretty close, so you should be able to keep the OEM sway bars and get something that's close to the feel of the original car. There's more to a suspension than spring rates, but this is at least one commonality with the OEM setup that makes me think it's worth looking into.

The kits aren't cheap, of course, but the DSSV dampers were about $4000 for the set, so the MCS kits aren't that far off.

The poster above who has noted that you should be able to put an order in through GM is correct. I've heard this before when I looked into getting new struts, but I haven't actually needed them yet. It may just be a matter of finding a dealer with a parts department that actually understands the process for making the special order.
