The purpose of an external canister is to increase the volume of fluid available, like a large capacity oil pan for an engine. You see them on off road rigs because the shocks have to oscillate a lot and the fluid gets hot, reducing the effectiveness of the shock. I don't really see the need for them on a Camaro. Maybe someone who uses them at the track will chime in. I run Z28 shocks at Sebring with no issues and that is the bumpiest track I have ever been on.
