Literally exactly like you describe it is how I remember it. Youre pulling into the gear and it feels like its there (first notch) then you pull a little harder and it clicks and notches in a 2nd time.

If youre looking to upgrade the shifter i highly recommend MGW
Is the the OEM one? I'm not sure if it is or not.
