When I'm driving on the road, the only way i can tell if it is a 328 or a 335 BMW is the dual exhaust (besides looking at the badges). The M3 is much easier to spot out, but that is because it is the top range model, not mid range. The SS, even if it is the top range model currently offered, is in fact a mid range model like the 335. There will not be many differences between a 328 and a 335, same with the LT RS and an SS RS. The Z28 will be much easier to tell apart from the others, just like the M3 is.
I don't really agree with this whole thread, but for the OP, I believe a Z28 is what you are looking for.
