I got accused of many things:
1) I think I'm better than anyone else
2) I want to shove my money in people's faces
I think it's only fair that I address these accusations. It wasn't fair to close the thread having being accused of these things without recourse.
1) No I do not think I'm better than anyone else. I'm just admitting that I understand myself and I understand you. We're all the same here except you don't realize it yet.
I disagree with this as without actually knowing me, you can not know my motivations.
You bought the Camaro because you think it's hot. I bought the Camaro because it's hot. Why do you think it's hot? Because we were brought up in a society that taught us to like Camaros. If we lived in a different country, like Singapore for example, none of us would think Camaros are hot. In other words: we are a product of our society. How many bloody threads are on these forums raving on about the attention they're getting from driving their Camaros? Hmm? Are they shallow too?
I work in and am currently in a foreign country, Brazil, a society that for the most part drives small, less than 2 litre displacement powered vehicles. I was discussing my purchase with a fellow ex-pat, and a Brazilian National overheard me and asked about my Camaro. He said he had seen one on the internet and really liked it. He wished two things, that they sold them in Brazil, and that he made enough to purchase one. I arrived back on the rig yesterday and had to show pictures of it to many of the guys. I didn't mention I was buying it or had recieved it to them, they overheard and wanted to see it. A driller and I were given pretty much the same treatment in Egypt when I was working there. These people desire and want these things, but the Government taxation, and wage scales do not afford them the oppurtunity; it is not a matter of societal upbringing, it is a matter of oppurtunity...
If a Camaro were as hot as a Camry, it's not hot any more. Common is not hot. That's why the Mustang isn't hot. So wanting my car to be hot is admitting that it is going to be hotter than a Camry. There's nothing wrong with that.
I'm sorry, but I don't follow this statement...
2) No. I don't know how many times I have to explain this, and people are still so eager to judge critically. I said: if you work harder for something, you deserve to get what you pay for. I don't know why this is so difficult for some people to understand. Would you pay for a 2SS/RS and only get an LS? Obviously not! You paid for a 2SS/RS because you wanted something different and you wanted something more.
Working hard is a matter of perception in my opinion. I made a comment earlier that I apologize for. It will not be repeated. A shoe salesman may have a really hard day if he has to put up with a particularly difficult customer. A business man may stress over a meeting that is not earth shattering or life threatening, a firefighter may work a all hands fire for many hours, etc...... It is all relative to personal experience and perception. It's not fair to make a general statement about someones altering their lifestyle, or sacrificying to afford this or any car. People want this car for as many reasons as their are people buying them. Most of these overlap, but certainly not all. Some fond memory may be a persons small pushing force to sacrifice and obtain it.
I asked the question to someone: "why did you buy the RS?", and the guy didn't get the point. People buy the RS because they like the differences. Why the heck would you pay for an RS if it's not going to be any different to the non-RS?
Again, we can't generalize this. Each has their own reason...I read a thread about a woman that remembers riding with her dad to get his first Camaro... My dad bought a 67 firebird and I have been a Camaro/Bird fan since...Again, there are multitudes of reasons.
So the fact that you paid money for the RS means you think the same as me. I want my car to be different. You want your car to be different.
My car is different as in it is
1.) Mine
2.) comes with a 426 HP engine
3.) Mine,
4.) is one of the rarest colors being bought,
5.) Mine,
6.) it reminds me of times I spent with my dad in his Firebird sooo [sic]many years ago,etc...
I love my Camaro, but I will not ever judge those that chose to buy an LT, an LS, a 1SS or any other. Again, we live in a land where we have the freedom to choose. The difference between mine and the V-six RS, what I paid for is the power plant. I'm fine with that...
Finally - please go and lynch the guy who started the "Camaro is outselling the Mustang" thread, and the "Mustang is a chick's car" (or something like that). It's all the same logic: we all think the same. We all want to differentiate ourselves in some way. We don't want our car to be common.
It is a statement of fact that the Camaro is outselling the Mustang. The mustang has been available continuously over the years and the Mustang enthusiast have not been frothing at the mouth to buy a car they were denied for roughly seven long years.
As for the statement that the Mustang is a girls car, that was tacky...!!!
This is a Camaro forum. By definition EVERYTHING in this forum is going to be frivolous. We are not solving world hunger here so let's just accept that fact and talk about cars. If you can understand modding you car, if you can understand buying the RS package, then you understand the point I was trying to make.
Frivilous is an opinion, there is a lot of great information to be had here. There is a lot of comraderie and friendships to be had here. There are oppurtunities for advertising and just sharing the news of a passion. It isn't for everyone, but it is for some, a place to belong. That is a basic desire of most all people. I loathe to use the word ALWAYS , as it is almost never a correct statement. No we are not solving world hunger, that is for others in another place, not on a Camaro forum. But there are important considerations for some people that just changed their lifestyle and maybe gave up a lot of things to be able to afford the vehicle. To them, it is very important that they find information for whatever is their concern.
People just got so angry thinking I was trash talking or a troll. Get a life. This is a frivolous car forum, so let's talk about frivolous car sh!t - not sh!t on each other. How about that?
I'll hold my tongue here, other than to say people are passionate about their Camaros, their mustangs, their Camry's, etc... It's what they worked hard for and what they spent their money on...We can't kast out those that choose differently... I paid for a 2SS/RS, and for that I got the horsepower I wanted... I'm happy with that...
Live and let live.
Agreed...
