Ball, Pistol Grip, T-Bar on an M6 short-throw - thoughts?
I've driven around for years in an LS1 with a short-throw shifter (B&M ripper), with the stock leather-wrapped Camaro ball. Short throw, fairly stiff but positive.
I was looking for thoughts from people who've used the alternatives in daily driving.
I found the short-throw very useful in daily driving. Every shift was a memorized more, 1-2 = closing my hand, 2-3 with thumb, 3-4 fingertips under the ball pulling back, 4-5 by reversing hand and putting it on the LEFT of the ball thumb-down. . . . 5-3 by closing hand then pushing the ball with the heel of my hand. . . .
But I noticed that, for all these moves, I approach the stick from different directions.
The benefit of the Pistol grip seems obvious for a hard 1-2; but I'm wondering if the differences go beyond racing and the asthetics.
Looks and drag racing aside, is a pistol-grip shift handle, or a T-bar, really as convenient in day to day driving?
Any thoughts appreciated, especially for people who have tried multiple types, over time, over their short-throw shifters.
