That said, I am surprised that the inaccurate 'similar performance' misconception is still making the rounds here even though I do understand the enthusiasm for the home team. Several mainstream auto rags have gotten the new GT500 into the low 12's, and Evan Smith of MM&FF wheeled one into the very high 11's with no mods other than slightly lower rear tire pressure. As far as I know no Camaro SS has ever gone faster than a 12.8x second 1/4 mile thus far. If you have ever been to a drag strip then you know that a one second difference in the 1/4 mile times doesn't look like a particularly close race.
The cars aren't close in any performance aspect outside of braking, and that is how it should be given the price difference.

with motortrend and the avg drive of a GT500 will be high 12's in the 1/4. I was generally saying that if you're using the argument about price vs performance you can argue both ends of the spectrum.
I have had my fair shair of 1320 passes. destroying mustangs and others alike at over 1 second differences. I by no means have had a fast car or am a great driver. 12.5 is not fast it's quick. but I've destroyed far superior cars at the strip due to drivers.
for me there is no misconception about the performance of the GT500. there's no misconception about the modability of the GT500. it is far superior to the SS. with someone that knows how to use the power, and has learned the car.
