You should be aware of the fact that mods increase power based largely on the room for improvement left in the engine. An engine with a low specific output can be improved much more than one with a high specific output. So while we can't conclusively say anything, this engine isn't going to violate any of the laws of physics. To make X amount of power you need to consume Y amount of air and Z amount of fuel in T amount of time. Displacement is the simplest, cheapest, and safest way for a manufacturer to do this. As you reduce displacement, you have to do things like use a more agressive cam profile to alter the timing of the valves so that it can get that fuel and air in and make the power. Problem is, if you now decided to replace your cam(s) with an even more aggresive profile you won't see as much improvement as the same profile in a much larger engine that had a milder cam than the one you started with.
The direct injection is a bit of an equalizer but there is a good chance that they will try and get more power out of the rest of the system, particularly if they hit the 400 ft-lbs of torque mark. If its down to 380 or less then there should be reasonable room for improvement in things like intake/exhaust and tune. If not, about the only thing worth doing would be forced induction
