I saw an article somewhere on LT installs, and you do have to remove some stuff to get at the headers. If I remember correctly, the oil dipstick tube and spark plug wires, and one or more wiring harnesses were taken out/disconnected in order to make room.

It's for an SS, but I don't think it would be that much different. Remove everything in the way, remove old part, put in new one, connect everything back up.
