There's no reason why I shouldn't be able to order a car online, directly from GM, for the same invoice price the dealer pays. Have it delivered to any old GM delaership to be PDI'd, which GM pays for anyway. Then I pick it up and drive away.

Thats why "supply and demand" is such bullshit for a car. It would be one thing if GM was selling them at a higher price to start with, to recoup R&D costs before lowing the price (kind of like apple did with the iPhone). They DESIGNED and they BUILT the car. But for dealerships to be buying these cars and reselling them for thousands more than the thousands they already make, for doing next to NOTHING. Thats BS. Thats not supply and demand, thats price gouging and it should be illegal.

Couldn't agree with you more. I have no sympathy for the dealers that GM (and Chrysler) forced to close and forfeit their franchise. They can cry all they want, but dealers really are nothing more than an intermediary between the manufacturer and me. Unfortunately, we are stuck with insipid franchise laws (of which each state has a somewhat slightly different version, so it's about impossible to repeal, and I know GM has tried in the past in various capacities to do so) which protect the existance of car dealerships.

I won't go into my soapbox diatribe about that, which I have in the past on other threads and any member here who's been on this forum as long or longer than me knows very well my position.
