If you can show some evidence....
I don't have his school records. Maybe you can go from what you do have about how smart the kid is.... Blows a scholarship for stealing a classmates laptop and then hiding it from the police by throwing it out of his dorm window...........
And yet performance against the JuCo competition is good enough to rate every JuCo prospect in the nation.
You have to rate them with something, but you have to keep it in perspective. He had bad stats as a JUCO player, he'll have horrible stats as a D1 player.
You're also taking a pretty contradictory position. On one hand, most of the guys playing JuCo ball are crap, then on the other managing to complete a lot of passes to WRs (who you just said are crap) doesn't matter.
They are crap because they couldn't do it at a higher level. I had an 84% completion percentage in HS. Does that mean my receivers and I are world class players, or does it mean we didn't play competition.......
Seriously, why would a dual threat QB ever choose a program running the spread option over one running a pro-style offense. Makes absolutely no sense at all...
Because it's night and day a better program, and you can bet Stoops is telling that kid he will have his own special running package.
Another reason may be opportunity to actually play. Sitting on the bench at a "real program" doesn't do a whole lot for a player's future prospects vs actually playing in "hicksville" as you so eloquently put it. If you play and have
any success in the SEC its going to bring attention to you whereas riding the pine won't.
OU isn't exactly overflowing with big physical athletic QB's who could have their own running package. BTW playing on TV generally brings you more attention lol
And if Newton is so terrible at passing like you say, what makes you think he's going to play vs one of the other 4 QBs already on the OU roster or the one currently committed? Landry Jones passing stats are nearly as good as Newton's but he was playing against Big 12 Ds and not Juco, so if it comes down to "who's the better passer" Newton is going to lose by your own logic...
Read above.
Thats ironic right there....
More like simple. He's being recruited as a running QB. His passing stats are pathetic, but it won't mater because he won't be throwing.
