I always recommend an alignment afterward. You can do wonders with some basic tools in your garage if you are DIY oriented.
Here is a link to a fellow Corvette racer's site with a
nice DIY alignment technique. He does race alignments with a Lowes laser level and some tape measures. I generally use strings on my racecars, accuracy is a function of the user, not the cost of the tool.
