Its a hell of a lot easier to get an extra 10% more power when you start with ~69 hp/L (current 4.6L or LS3) than it is when you're at 82 hp/L (new 5.0L), so long as both are naturally aspirated. Thats just how it works. Are there gains to be made? Sure, just not as much. Modifications are not magic. Every engine obeys the same laws of physics and has certain limits. The closer you are to those limits when you start, the less bang for your buck you get when you try to improve it.
