Yep - it could be related to the tire pressure monitoring (TPM) stuff, too. My Corvette had a flat tire one day, and when I started it up, one of the things the DIC said was "speed limited to 55 MPH". The TPM is separate from the ECM so it probably tells the ECM not to allow a speed over 55 MPH.
It seems like different cars have different speed limiter values based on the equipment they came with - someone on this thread earlier said they hit their limiter at 118 MPH but our test car would go to at least 150 MPH on the dyno (we didn't hit the limiter at all)...

If it was an RS v6, it's limited, like the SS cars, to 155mph. My car has seen the limiter on the dyno.
