In perfect conditions, in a straight line, without sustaining that speed, I might agree with you. Throw a stock Camaro into turn on a track at 150+ (even on tracks banked for this kind of speed) and I think you may have a different opinion. A stock Camaro has a LOT of understeer as built by the factory and the front end gets very light.
Anyone can go fast in a straight line with enough room to run off. As stated earlier in this thread, speed costs money as the HP needed to exceed drag goes up exponentially. Tell me how fast do you want to go and I'll tell you how big a check you need to write. Not much skill involved in that. Turns are what separate drivers from guys with big wallets.

I have done exactly that several times and my opinion stands. With 800 miles on the clock I took my Camaro and ran it bone stock at the road course with banking made for 150+ mph. Yes it did understeer but very predictable and stable, and that is why I went with Pfadt Swaybars, went back to the track, then I added springs, and again back to the track. I have tried several suspension set-ups at the road course, drag strip and standing mile events. Next mod is Pfadt Coil-overs and finally some real track wheel and tire set-up.
I know how fast I want to go, both in straight line performance and on the road course and there is a lot more then money that come into fact
I have over 7000 miles on my Camaro in barely 2 months. 4 full days of road course driving, 3 standing mile events with at least 6 full runs each time, 100 passes on the 1/4 (both real and full 1/4 mile simulation on our Dyno) and a couple thousand daily driven miles. I know this car both in and out and am very aware of what it s capable of.
When I want to go really fast I just break out my Z06 with 610whp, now we are talking speed

The Camaro is pretty similar to the GTO in several aspects, and I sustained speeds over 140mph from Stockholm to Maranello (Sweden to Italy) and the car felt right at home. I get the same feeling with the Camaro, but even better actually! GM did their homework and made an amazing car with this one!
