Is it a manual or automatic. If I remember there were some that had bad valve lifters that were replaced. I believe there is a bulletin about it.
If it is an automatic trans it could be a problem with the AFM (DOD) which uses different lifters in the center 4 cylinders. Blue smoke would be caused by bad lifters and or seals.
