While a lot of people on this site may have bought their Camaro with the intention of taking it to the track the overwhelming majority of Camaros sold will never set foot (rubber?) on one. This site is not at all representative of the average Camaro owner. I personally am getting one because I fell in love when I saw the original concept and have had to have one ever since. It will be stock until the day it leaves my possession (mechanically that is, never said anything about cosmetic changes as I'm really hoping a good afterburner tail light will hit the market as well as a spoiler with a third brake light built in) and will be owned purely to be enjoyed for the amazing work of engineering and design that it is. So to answer your question, yes, there are some of us who have bought it/will be buying it for the same reason as you and no it doesn't have to be a V8 to be a Camaro. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.
