You don't have to use their insurance/loans to get the discount. I signed up for their free checking/savings account. Just needed $50 minimum to open ($25 for each account). I just got my USAA member card in the mail yesterday and you still have the $50 in the account.


Edit: Disregard, bad info. Thought USAA was offering civilians accounts.
