And if it was a bumper cover and they were testing it for aerodynamics they wouldn't need to run it on a track anyways, they could put it through a wind tunnel for that.

If it was just a few facia upgrades they wouldn't need to test drive it. Wind tunnel gives you the aerodynamics, stress testing is done inside on machines. The only logical reason this particular test-mule would be test driven on the GM proving grounds is if there is a new engine or suspension that GM needs to fine tune, imho.
